The Georgia Capitol Tour is a multimedia app created to give visitors to the State of Georgia Capitol building a dynamic interactive tour. The app is free to the public and offers users the ability to tour at their own pace and to their own interests. Visitors can tour geographically and learn more about the history that surrounds them or go on a scavenger-like tour around the Capitol grounds following a storyline.
The app uniquely offers visitors rich information and first-hand accounts of significant events of Georgias history that have taken place at the Capitol itself. Visitors will watch videos that were filmed at the very location the events took place and experience history at that same location.
The Video tab feature first-person accounts from Georgia history makers including President Jimmy Carter, Governor Nathan Deal, and Senator Leroy Johnson. The episodes are narrated by Atlantas own, Monica Pearson, WSB-TV news anchor and long-time observer of Georgia politics. The More tabs feature historic photographs arranged to summarize events that are narrated in the video and provide an opportunity for closer examination of historic documents.
The Georgia Capitol Tour was created in part by a grant from the National Endowment for Humanities and made possible by partnerships with Georgia State University, the Georgia Humanities Council, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV Channel 2.
